Answers to the big questions about booking with Virtual Clinic providers.
Please email our Patient Care Team at virtualclinicsupport@unifiedhc.com.
We are in-network with the majority of payers in North Carolina, South Carolina, Arizona and Florida. This includes Aetna, Cigna, BlueCross Blue Shield and UnitedHealthcare. Before you begin treatment with a Virtual Care provider, we recommend that you call your insurance company to verify that your visit will be in network, and to determine what your deductible and copays will be.
After booking your appointment, you'll receive a link to complete your medical forms. This needs to be done at least 48 hours prior to your appointment so that your clinician can be ready for your visit.
About 24 hours before your appointment you will receive a link to join your video visit. We recommend using a computer rather than your phone for the best experience. Prior to your appointment time, simply click on the link and follow the instructions to join the meeting.
Our in-network coverage includes video appointments with our doctors and dietitians (in most markets). The number of appointments covered is dependent on your specific plan. Please call your insurance provider prior to your initial visit to understand how many yearly visits your coverage includes.
Once you have booked an appointment and supplied us with your insurance information, our care coordinators will work with your insurance to establish an estimate of the co-pay, coinsurance or deductible that is owed by the patient for the visit. We will communicate this to you and provide a secure payment link to collect that amount. The remaining balance will be billed to your insurance company, and once the claim has been processed, you will receive an explanation of benefits notice in the mail of what was paid by the carrier. If there is a remaining balance after the insurance company has processed the claim, Virtual Clinic will issue a statement to the patient with their remaining balance owed.
If your Virtual Clinic visits are in network with your insurance, you still may have a deductible to meet and co-pays. Please verify those amounts with your insurance company before you begin treatment so that you understand costs and the number of visits covered.
If you're uninsured or out of network under your plan,Virtual Clinic can bill you direct for payment for services (self-pay). Please note that we do not offer a sliding scale for payments.
The cost for an initial self-pay visit with a dietitian is $199 and with a doctor it is $250. The cost for a self-pay follow up visit with a dietitian is $119 and with a doctor it is $199.
While the Virtual Clinic is associated with your OB/GYN’s office, we are a separate clinic with different providers from your in-person providers. Before you can book your first appointment, you will need to set up an account with the Virtual Clinic and provide some basic information such as your insurance, payment method and health history. Setting up your account only takes a few minutes.
Your Virtual Clinic account is connected to a separate patient portal from your OB/GYN’s office. You will use your new Virtual Clinic account to meet with our providers, as well as to view appointment notes and connect with our Patient Care Team. When you meet with any member of our clinical staff, your notes will be accessible in your patient portal.
Rather than focusing just on dropping a few pounds, we offer support that considers you as a whole person, including your personal goals and your unique metabolic needs, as well as your long-term health. Programs marketing "weight loss" typically offer quick fixes that may support weight loss initially, but often are difficult to sustain long-term and end up resulting in future weight gain. yfocusing on weight management, we look to set realistic and sustainable goalsthat can be maintained for the long-term.

All Virtual Clinic services are available as an order set in athenahealth. Simply type in the first two words, “Virtual Clinic…” and you’ll see the available services.
Our Patient Care Team will contact the patient within one week by phone to set up an initial appointment. If the patient doesn’t respond by phone, we also send an SMS message. We will follow up two more times with the patient to get them scheduled.
If a patient does not respond to outreach or declines the referral, we will send a letter to you via athenafax documenting the referral outreach outcome.
At the end of the patient’s completed visit, a summary of care will be sent automatically to the referring provider via athenafax.
How these notes get attached to the patient's chart depends on task-oriented actions that may be configured in your athena department. It is possible that these notes may remain in a "STAFF" bucket in your practice's clinical inbox for processing by Clinical Support Staff.
Weight management referrals are best for patients interested in medications to address their weight concerns. This care pathway starts with a 50-minute intake appointment with a dietitian. We will also order labs. If medications are indicated, we will refer to one of our Virtual Clinic doctors to discuss appropriate medications.
We will order the labs in the patient’s first visit with the dietitian. If the patient has had labs within the last 6-months, please send these over with the referral note and we will review during their initial appointment.
We are able to prescribe medications to address weight concerns that do not contain controlled substances, including GLP-1 agonists (WegovyTM and ZepboundTM). We will work with your patients to find the best medication for their unique needs.
